In India, tuberculosis is the most common infection found. Other infections (non TB ) can be pyogenic, fungal etc.

TREATMENT

Mainstay of treatment in such pathologies is to carry out CT scan directed Percutaneous biopsy of the lesion and to start sensitive chemotherapy (as per culture report)for prolonged period depending on patient’s symptoms and follow up radiological investigations. Surgery comes in picture only if any neurological compression with deficit, progressive deformity sets in, to achieve decompression of compressed neural structures and to provide stability to diseased spine.
